My Thanksgiving weekend first got off to a rough start. The plan was to fly in a day early, so I could sightsee around DC. Murphy though, unfortunately got in the way. Apparently, there was a mechanical issue with the flight I ended up spending the day at the airport waiting for another plane to be found before the airline finally cancelled the flight. Of course by this time, flying across the country on another flight was not an option. I have to be grateful though, sometimes you never know the reason why you did not get what you wanted. One time when I was younger, I was supposed to go out on a boat with a bunch of friends. I had made a promise to my mom to do something else that day, and she held me to it. In typical teenage fashion, I wsa upset and mad that I did not get to go - but found out later that night that the boat hit a rock, sank and two people had to be airlifted to the hospital. Now, I am more grateful when sometimes things do not go as planned!

Thanksgiving - DC/Richmond
The good news is that we were upgraded to first class the next morning and on our way! I did get the opportunity to hike around DC at least in the dark, seeing the monuments and the White house. Did not get to stay long, since the real purpose of the trip was to head on to Richmond, VA. The drive was really nice this year -apparently the fall leaves are late falling due to warmer weather (it was in the 70's when I got there). Amazing colors I do not get to ever see here at home. I stayed in what is known as the "Fan" right by VCU and the University of Richmond. This area is not too commercialized and has all sorts of cute boutiques and restaurants. One thing I really like about going back there is the history. On a walk, I went by the river where Lincoln stood, looked at an old war camp, and saw piers that helped shuffle civil war good across the river - Richmond was the capital of the confederates so there is all sorts of history nearby. Thanksgiving day I had dinner at the only 5 star hotel in town, the Jefferson with its own history. It has been around for over 100 years, and had great ambiance. I did get alittle shopping on black Friday - buying a new ipod. I justify it by saying it helps me stay motivated to run.
Saturday, I had a great day at Colonial Williamsburg. It is just fun to see how things were done back when the country began. There are all sorts of reinactments of the way the houses were, the governors palace, and staged speeches by people like Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. It was rather chilly though, by this time a cold front came though dropping the temps down. Overall great weekend (except the ASU loss) and I look forward to going back there again sometime to see more history!
