Birthdays, Pumpkins, and Butterflies

Here is your catch up for the past couple of weeks on what has been happening with me. Last weekend started with a very surprised Caryn on her B-day. There were two groups, one that met her at home and then another where I was at Grimaldi’s. The b-day girl was VERY surprised. Then, we went on to Dos Gringos for more festivities. The next dayI had one of those debates I have had many times after staying out too late – to run or not to run. Kelly was my motivation to do the Frank Kush 5k. I am glad I did it, but I sure wanted some more sleep!

Then that night, it was another B-day celebration for Kelly! This one was lower key – we went to her place to meet up, then on to Schnepf Farms for the pumpkin and chili party. We went through a corn maze, ate, and picked out lots of pumpkins. My lack of sleep caught up with me though and before I was able to carve one, I went home. I plan to carve them this week in time for Halloween. Sunday, and another B-day! My good old Dad turned the big 6-0. Don’t tell him that though, because he is still in denial, and I can verify that he does not look that age! It was just a small family gathering with food and cake.

Now fast forward to this weekend – no Birthdays! I went out Friday night to my new favorite restaurant. Why do you ask? I love going out to nice restaurants – but they always seem to upset my stomach with all the rich food so I have to choose carefully. Taggia is located in the new FireSky resort. It has a mediterranean theme, which I found out had no dairy in almost all of their dishes and no butter! Success! Saturday morning, I had a 20-30 event called Tools and Rules. The girls in the club meet with the girls from Florence Crittenton to teach them about job skills, resumes, and interviewing. We had a special gust speaker who was very motivational – Terri Bowerstock - she is the one who founded Terri’s Consign and design. If you have a chance, read her story as it is amazing what she has been able to do with very little. The rest of Saturday was all about ASU. I did not do Alumni band this year, but I did stop by the tailgate. They just keep getting better and better! Wine and crab cakes at a tailgate? I think so! Instead of going to the game though, I went to Amy’s house to watch the game.

Sunday I had brunch with my good friend Joe, who has been coming into town to watch the ASU games. Then, I went on to the Desert Botanical Gardens with my mom. They have an exhibit called the Butterfly pavilion she wanted to show me. It is an enclosed area full of flowers and butterflies. It was also a cerebration of Dia de los Muertos. It makes me laugh sometimes when my mom walks by, and then starts talking Spanish to people when they do not expect it. Learning Spanish is on my to do list!

In other random news, another activity taking up my time is learning to teach. I am trying to become a teacher online and going through the training program right now. That means doing assignments and posting most days just like a student right now (hence the delay in keeping up my blog)

Have a Wonderful week!
