I just bought a new backpack this week - new gear means a reason to get out! Horton Creek first came to mind as a good place to wear new gear in, and take a few newbies to backpacking. It certainly has been a special place to me over the years and I have not been up there in some time. A last minute decision was made to head up there overnight. Over the years, I have hiked there but never backpacked. The hike is just 4 miles and takes you to a spring that seems to just come out of the side of a mountain. Unfortunately, it is already fire season so no campfires. Still, it made for a beautiful time outside when it is so hot in town!
