Dirty 30!!

Today is my 30th B-day – a big milestone! Naturally, I am reminiscing about first how the heck did I get here, and if I am happy where I am at. Well, at least I can answer the second question – yes, I have accomplished much more than I ever thought possible and still have to keep dreaming up new goals since I reached so many of them quickly. I am pretty proud of the person I have become, both inside and externally. So I thought for the post today I would think about what I have learned thus far, please excuse my soapbox! Now... I am still working on all of these, hey I am only turning 30 not 90! I still have time to learn even more!

1. Just do it. Yes, the Nike slogan is true! In the past couple of years, I got the courage through the help of some wonderful friends to try new activities. I learned belly dance, taking tennis, did a marathon, and faced the fear of water by getting scuba certified. Even yesterday I decided to try Bikram Yoga – which is in a room heated over 100 degrees! What is next? A triathlon I am hoping!

2. Be grateful. I went through a rough time a year and a half ago, and found myself going down a path that was not very constructive. Looking back, it was one of the best things to ever happen to me in becoming a better person. I saw somewhere to write out a grateful list daily and this small action has worked wonders. This means grateful for friends you talked to that day, the thank you of a close friend at work, or just seeing the sun rise.

3. Never say never. It is never too late to start doing something you wish you should have done, or becoming the person you want to be. There have been so many things I have done in the last few years that I thought I would never do – thank you to all of my friends out there for helping push me!

4. Give back. I do believe in the karma idea, and have made a big effort to work with more non-profits, say more thank you’s, and do the right thing.

5. Keep Learning. I love to read, really love it! I never want to be at a point where I think I know it all. I read awhile back that we are only doing our best with the skills and knowledge we had at the time. With that, I know I made some major mistakes, but learned from them and continue to keep learning.

6. Be organized. Ok, this one may not seem to fit in with the other points here, but actually ties in well. In order for me to do all that I want to, I have to prioritize and determine how I want my day and life to go. I took a few classes several years ago on organization through work, and really try to be consistent with making sure I know somewhat how my week will go. That way I can train, see friends, have personal time etc.

7. Have Fun – I saw the best saying about a week ago that really made sense – do more fun things that make you feel better after doing it, rather than worse. How many times have you gone out the night before....only to regret it the next morning. :) Be around friends that make you smile, do activities that afterward you can say you had a great time.

I want to give a HUGE thanks to all of you that listened over the last couple of years and spent time with me though it all! Love ya!!! :)

Happy 30th! Just got back from across the world and my sleep pattern is pretty messed up. Thought I would check out what you were up to. =)
