Happy New Year!!

What a fabulous year! I started my holiday weekend going up to Flagstaff. With the new car I was itching to try that 4 wheel drive. I ended up going cross country skiing. It is such a great workout. I had tried it several years ago, but never returned. I took another lesson and something clicked. Maybe it is because I understand skiing in general better now. Somehow I hate the cold, but take every chance I can get to ski. This year, I have several out of state trips planned already to head to somewhere with snow.

Being that it is New Years, of course there are the typical New Years Resolutions. If there is anything I have learned this year, it is that you need to set your goals higher. I have accomplished so many things. I think back 10 years ago, and would not have been able to imagine all these things! Now I find myself thinking, well, if I can do that why not set my sights higher? Getting over something that scares you help to accomplish other things you never thought possible. In my case I ran a marathon, learned to scuba dive, made VP, bought my dream car, and became involved much more in non-profit activities. I am in the process of re-doing my house as well. New patio (completely rebuilt), carpet, tile, stucco, bathrooms sinks and facets etc…. I will have a new place! So many of my friends have accomplished great things as well - all of us girls running the marathon together, marriages, new jobs, and going back to school for masters. So for this year mine are:

1. Compete in triathlons. I learned this past fall that I need more accountability with my training. So, I will be joining a local group in the spring to do my first tri in April. I already got a head start on this from taking the private swim lessons. I still like doing running, but will likely keep it to ½ marathons (though, I have been thinking of the New York marathon). I am still doing the PF Changs in a couple of weeks.

2. Write more. I am not sure what this means yet, but it more to help a long term goal of writing a book.

3. Keep in touch with friends. I attended a couple of networking groups this year, and realized that I did an awful job of keeping in touch with my own friends sometimes! You need to ask periodically how people are doing and not just go to them when you need something.

4. Be involved in the community. This last year I have been attending several women’s conferences and events in addition to the non-profits I work with. We are trying to start a women’s leadership initiative at work as well. I would love to be on one of the city boards.

5. Travel! I will get to Europe this year. It has been my goal for several years, and this year it will happen! I also want another diving trip somewhere.

6. Professionally, I want to work on public speaking. I manage a large group, and like public speaking but just want to get better. Also, just reading a lot to learn more management methods.
7. Family! Well, in the short term spending time with my siblings and parents but in the long term my own. Yes, I am finally getting maternal! I bought a car with that intent someday, but realize that that is still several years away.
I wish all of you a happy 2008! Let me know your goals so that we can remind each other of what we want to do this great year!

Have fun running the PF Changs marathon.

Europe huh? Try Italy first. They have alot of nice bed and breakfast type places around the wine country.
There's this one wine bar where you can sample a few hundred types of wine. =)
